The Eel Pie Club
The Eel Pie Club is located upstairs at The Cabbage Patch, on London Road, Twickenham. It was formed in 2000 by Gina Way, Warren Walters and Tom Nolan, to preserve and continue the heritage of UK Rhythm & Blues which started in the 1960s, down the road at The Eel Pie Island Hotel, and whose new young talent (including The Rolling Stones, Long John Baldry, David Bowie, Rod Stewart, The Yardbirds, Eric Clapton, Jimmy Page, Jeff Beck) began their rise to super-stardom. In 2010, Tom moved out of the area and since then the Club has been owned and run by Gina Way and Warren Walters.
It has become a regular haunt for musicians and music lovers alike. Eel Pie Club Members are entitled to a discount on most tickets and receive regular email updates. The Club is open to non-Members as well as Members.
Guests and featured musicians have included Long John Baldry, Dave Berry, Arthur Brown, Chris Farlowe, Georgie Fame, Dr. Feelgood, Tony McPhee, Zoot Money, Mud Morganfield (Muddy Waters Jr.), Ronnie Wood, Art Wood, Jesse Wood, and Leah Wood and members of The Animals, Dire Straits, The Kinks, The Jeff Beck Band, The Pretenders, Wishbone Ash and The Blues Band, plus bands including Atomic Rooster, Nine Below Zero, The Pretty Things, Stan Webb’s Chicken Shack, Simon Townshend, Geno Washington and The Yardbirds.
In 2009, The Eel Pie Club received the accolade of being voted ‘best place to hear blues music in the UK’ by The Saturday Guardian. In 2010, in association with Richmond Upon Thames Council, the Eel Pie Club designed a heritage board which gives the history of the music on Eel Pie Island and a bronze plaque listing the musicians who played there. It is located on Twickenham Riverside, outside The Barmy Arms, just across the river from the Island.
The Eel Pie Club has supported and continues to support a number of charities, including The Princess Alice Hospice, Prostate Cancer UK, The Duchenne Children’s Trust (for Muscular Dystrophy) and Cancer Research UK.
The Eel Pie Club along with all other music venues, has been closed due to Covid 19 since March 2020. We are very excited about reopening our doors on 24 June 2021. For more information on upcoming gigs, go to www.eelpieclub.com.
