If you’re all about the rarity factor, Eel Pie Records also buys and sells pre-loved vinyl so keep an eye out for any hidden gems and on top of that lookout for its Love Record Stores event in which extremely limited editions of some of the very best albums of 2020 are available to buy. Created to support independent record shops across the UK it only comes around every so often so follow the guys on Facebook and Twitter to stay in the loop and take a look at the website to see what’s still available.
If you do already follow Eel Pie Records on social media, you will know about the Twickenham Record Fair. A monthly record collectors’ fair on Church Street, organised by the shop, it hosts over 20 tables of collectible brand new and second-hand vinyl from traders in the South of England. One for the hardcore collectors, the fair is Covid-19 safe and the last one of 2020 is taking place on Saturday 12th December. Entrance is a suggested £1 charitable donation with all proceeds going to local charities.
But don’t worry if music isn’t your thing, you can still show some local love to the store by purchasing their merchandise which includes: t-shirts, hoodies, glasses and mugs, so there is definitely something for everyone.
Kevin Jones, of Eel Pie Record and Chair of Discover Twickenham, said, “We’re so pleased to be open again. We kept going over lockdown, but we are here to be a physical shop, people like to come in, have a look and start conversations. It’s hard to do that as an online shop. We’re like a pub in that sense, we’re a social hub and a community space where local people can come, but instead, we’re based around a shared interest in music.
“What’s really helped us is having our now world-famous #EelsonWheels service. We’re making use of the cargo bike acquired by Discover Twickenham BID for deliveries. I know they hope to make it available to other TwickTraders in the future. It’s the perfect thing for these times as we aim to be a green, ethical and local alternative to the evil tax-dodging big businesses.”
If you are looking fora gift for a music-loving loved one, Eel Pie Records and its ever-changing range of records is definitely worth checking out.
